A VERY long weekend … something mad and something sad

A girls’ weekend in Paris that turned into a 7 week holiday.

I woke up this morning with no plans. In my emails was a Bloomsbury walk leaving from Russell Square Tube Station – one of my local stations. I nabbed the last ticket and headed off to meet the group.

Peter is a knowledgeable and entertaining guide with behind the scenes stories to tell. I love this style of walk which takes you to places you’d never usually go and points out things you’d usually just walk past without noticing.

All these places were easy walking distance from my accommodation and I went back to several of them later in my stay.

A VERY long weekend … Monumental

A girls’ weekend in Paris that turned into a 7 week holiday.

In 2007, I turned up to ascend The Monument to the Great Fire of London on the very day it closed for an 18-month makeover.

3 trips and 12 years later, I finally made it to the top. And I felt every one of the 311 steps.

Wherever we travel we like to investigate war history, even if we have no personal connection to the area. Over the years we’ve found some quirky little museums and cemeteries as well as visiting some of the well-known memorials.
