Blah! Blah! Blarney!

I suppose if I’d researched it before I went I’d have realised that kissing the Blarney Stone wasn’t just a matter of leaning over and … well … kissing a stone.

It hadn’t occurred to me that I’d have to climb to the top of the castle and lie on my back over an empty space.

These days the empty space has iron bars – presumably some sort of safety device although I suspect it’s more to give the kisser a feeling of security rather than because there’s any real danger.

Still, for those of us with a fear of heights it does help. As does the attendant who steadies you as you take your turn. And he’s amply rewarded with tips from those how appreciate his presence.

Kissing the Blarney Stone, legend tells us, will give you the gift of the gab. Whether or not I needed any help from a stone, or whether I just naturally love to rabbit on is a matter of conjecture. I’ll leave it to you to decide.
