Always take the weather … on a drive into history

I’m not sure what happened to the original of this post. Somewhere between writing it and publishing it, it disappeared with only the title remaining.

Today we drove around Cades Cove. When I think of coves, I think of sandy beaches and rocky shorelines. But this has neither.

What it does have is a circular drive with examples of pioneer cottages, churches and small cemeteries which highlight the sadness of the hardship and the loss. So many children buried and, sometimes, whole families.

Well worth the time to stop and reflect on how much easier things are for us today.

Thanks for travelling with us. We'd love to hear what you think.
