The Silverdale Confederate Cemetery is tucked away up a little lane. You probably wouldn’t happen upon it.
It’s a peaceful place of rest for the 155 Confederate soldiers buried here. Sadly, most of them are now unknown as the original wooden head boards have long since rotted away, but some have been identified and there are a few memorial stones.
Visiting cemeteries mightn’t be your idea of a great holiday activity. I find them peaceful places full of stories told and yet to be told. And perhaps some that will stay forever untold.
If you find a moment to visit, listen to the recorded information available as you enter before enjoying the tranquility while you pay your respects.
